They say \u201cwe recommend you involve us in the process as early as possible\u201d for DG. <a href=\"https:\/\/networktasman.co.nz\/distributed-generation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>(Link to Network Tasman Solar)<\/strong><\/a><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Select your system and ensure compliance<\/strong><br>\u2013 Choose equipment (panels, inverter, etc) that meets the required standards.<br>\u2013 Ensure your installation will comply with the relevant technical standards and NTL\u2019s documents. For bigger systems (&gt;10 kW) there are more detailed requirements.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Submit the appropriate application<\/strong><br>\u2013 For systems <strong>10 kW or less<\/strong>, use the \u201cPart 1 \/ Part 1A\u201d application pack. <a href=\"https:\/\/networktasman.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Information-Pack-less-than-10kW-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>(Link to Information Pack less than 10kW)<\/strong><\/a><br>\u2013 For systems <strong>greater than 10 kW<\/strong>, use the \u201cPart 2\u201d application pack which has more detailed information (e.g., single line diagrams, detailed data) required.<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/networktasman.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Information-Pack-greater-than-10kW-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>(Link to Information Pack greater than 10kW)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Review &amp; Approval<\/strong><br>\u2013 NTL will review your application. They have rights under the code and their contract to approve, impose conditions (including export limits) or reject based on network capacity \/ safety \/ technical risk.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/networktasman.co.nz\/distributed-generation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(Link to Network Tasman)<\/a><\/strong><br>\u2013 For example: they talk about \u201cexport congestion\u201d where parts of their network may already be at capacity for hosting DG.<strong> <br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Installation &amp; Compliance Check<\/strong><br>\u2013 Once approved, you install the system. It must meet the technical standards and NTL\u2019s conditions. Post-installation you may need to provide certification (e.g., Electrical Certificate of Compliance) for NTL to connect it.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Connection &amp; Operation<\/strong><br>\u2013 After all is approved and certified, the system can be connected. You must operate within any conditions (e.g., export limit, inverter remote shutdown, etc) that NTL may impose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br><strong>\ud83d\udccb Key Additional Technical &amp; Operational Conditions<\/strong><br>Here are some of the specific conditions NTL mention which are important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Export \/ congestion management<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NTL says that in some areas their network is \u201creached capacity for hosting solar generation \u2026 No further distributed generation can be accommodated without export to grid restrictions or network upgrades.\u201d <br><strong>Overvoltage shutdown<\/strong>: For solar generation systems, the inverters are required to have an overvoltage shutdown facility (for example with NTL they reference 248 V) to protect the network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Remote disconnection \/ network interaction<\/strong>: When exporting to the grid, the system must allow safe operation \u2014 network disturbances, power quality, reverse flows etc must be managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Battery storage systems<\/strong>: If you\u2019re installing solar plus battery\/hybrid systems, NTL has a policy on \u201cBattery Energy Storage System Grid based charging\u201d. Batteries add an additional layer of complexity.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/networktasman.co.nz\/distributed-generation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(Link to Network Tasman)<\/a><\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>\ud83d\udc65 What this means for homeowners &amp; installers<\/strong><br>If you are a homeowner considering solar (especially grid-connected), you should involve a <strong>licensed electrician<\/strong> (or certified installer) who understands DG connections and the standards.<br>You should check with NTL <strong>before purchasing<\/strong> your system about whether your site is in an area where export or connection may be restricted.<br>Ensure your inverter and other equipment meet the required AS\/NZS standards referenced above.<br>Be aware that systems &gt;10 kW have significantly more stringent requirements (single line diagrams etc).<br>Ensure certification and compliance documentation is prepared so that NTL can approve connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remember to inform Network Tasman that Go Flash will be completing the livening.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electricity Retailer <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Retailer<\/strong>: Contact your electricity retailer and request a metering change to import\/export metering. <strong>Please ensure Flash is on the service request form.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meter Relocations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you require the meter to be relocated from an existing location to a new location the electricity retailer <strong>MUST BE CONTACTED<\/strong>  (This includes replacing the meter board backing panel.) Once electricity retailer is contacted they will raise a service order and then Go Flash can complete the job from the service order.
